When I was a kid, I used to spend some time on a friend of the family's farm each summer. They had about 50 cows. So I learned about cow flops. A cow flop is the pile of poo that a cow makes. It's about a foot or so in diameter and 3-4 inches deep. It's a LOT of poo. Something you have to walk carefully around, particularly if don't have barn boots on. If you get it on your city shoes, it'll never come completely off, so you may as well throw them away. Here's a cow flop, of the mediumship kind. Allison Dubois is a well-known medium who became popular for the show Medium, which is based on her experiences with psychic detective work. She recently appeared on an episode of The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills. She attended a dinner party, which turned into a cat fight. It got ugly. I've seen Medium but not the Beverly Hills show. I waded through some online poo to try to find the truth, and found a couple things. First, an article with a number of quotes from Allison in the episode. Second, another one about the episode, and in the comments following the article, Jessica (December 21, 2010 at 8:50 pm) quotes Allison as saying “I can tell her when, where and how she is gonna die, that’s why I love being me”. If you go to Allison's site, she states the following: "I aired in an episode of HW of BH that was to say the least, in my opinion, recklessly edited and was not representative of what actually happened that night nor who I am. I was there only as support for my friend Camille who had told me how painful her interaction with the other housewives was and it was making her physically ill. I'm very protective of my friends/family and was there to support my friend." My outsider view is this. Yes, editors will edit recklessly to get the maximum emotional charge out of a scene, particularly when it's "reality" TV. Drama sells, and if you don't have enough of it, you polish up what you've got to make it as dramatic as you can. But, and it's a BIG but, editors have to have something to work with first. It's not easy for them to create something out of absolutely nothing. Apparently they had no trouble with that, because Allison gave them plenty to work with. Here are some quotes from the first article cited above:
- "I have books written on me and by me and television shows based on my life so you can just take a flying leap."
- “Can I just say this: If any of their children disappeared they wouldn't be like, ‘You were wrong,’ they'd be, like, ‘Can you help?’ Pssh, f**k them!”
- “I was studied by a scientist for several years on Oprah in front of 70 million people and I'm kind of like a drug. Once you get one, you kinda want it again.”
- Get rid of your ego as best you can, and if you can't, don't display it for the public to see.
- If you ever get on TV, remember that you are representing all mediums. Whether you believe it, or not. Whether the show involves mediumship, or not. Please represent mediums as the good, noble, people of integrity that they should be. Don't appear or act sarcastic, condescending, and egotistic. That also means no swearing and F-bombing, even if it's sanctified by the show you're on. We're counting on you to make us look GOOD. Don't let us down.
- Don't use your mediumship in anger or for unfair advantage. Don't say anything that could be misconstrued as you making a nasty psychic "prediction" about anyone. To actually do so is unethical, and it will come back upon you later, much to your dismay.
