Disturbance in the force

I happened across this article about the Pope doing an exorcism. I'm not so sure how much Christianity really knows about spirits outside of their holy spirit, but if it works, it works, and that's the important part. Not a big deal, I suppose. But this is what really got me:
In his very first homily as pope on March 14, Francis warned cardinals gathered in the Sistine Chapel the day after he was elected that "he who doesn't pray to the Lord prays to the devil."
What the &*%k kind of comment is this??? Even if it's only a quarterback having a private huddle with his teammates, it's still terrible. Very narrow minded. Very disappointing. Sad. How binary. So this means that rest of us who don't pray to the Christian lord are all of the devil?? I hope he doesn't really believe that -- it would be a tragedy. If you read the rest of the article, it seems like they believe quite a bit in the devil, and seem to talk about it a fair amount. Why give so much energy to it, I'm not sure, but preventing-politics aside, people are free to believe and say pretty much whatever they want.
