The standard question

I called a hotel I was going to be staying in to be sure that they had a shuttle to the airport. The person I talked to answered my question and was polite. It was a standard question. She did her best to hide it, but I picked up that "oh-no, not this question again" thought that comes when you answer the ten thousandth question for the ten thousandth time. Zen Buddhism has a standard question that's always asked by those with beginner's mind, and that is "what is Zen?" Unlike the shuttle to the airport question, the answer is anything but standard.
